I’ve written before about the tricky art of appraising a cover song, both on its own merits and in relation to the original. As cynical as it may seem, it turns out it’s much easier to say what isn’t a good cover rather than what is. There is of course that pesky ever-present quandary in the form of subjectivity, but in this realm there are some clear cut and nearly bulletproof statements one could make.

It’s been a dry first half of July, in many respects. So dry in fact, that there was nothing notable on either extreme. Nothing really good, nothing really bad. Everything was just very average.

June has been an extremely busy month for music, so I’m dumping a whole lotta opinion at the halfway mark. Of course this means if the second half is dry I’ll have nothing to talk about at the end but that is mostly unlikely as I will always find something to gripe about, always.
