Bold and direct, Gene Luen Yang‘s tale about growing up as a Chinese youth in America works as both an illuminative coming-of-age story and a parable about self-identity. With its multi-pronged approach it delivers a seldom heard point of view without ever coming off as preachy. It’s also woefully short. Spoilers ahead.

Graphic Novel Review: The Arab of the Future 1 & 2 by Riad Sattouf

Glacially paced and occasionally scattershot, Riad Sattouf‘s memoir is an interesting read but could have massively benefited from tighter editing. It’s supposed to be a four part series, but could have easily fit into two books like a certain peer’s series about a similar subject.
