After my disgruntled previous post I made a vow to myself that I would not write again until I found something I genuinely enjoyed and could write about positively. No caveats, no half-hearted praise, no tempered analysis. I wanted to hear a new song that I legitimately liked.

Recently I wrote about the trademarks of the classic “bad song”, where “bad” meant generic and totally forgettable. In that case it meant The disposable, lazy, often single-note hook repeated 4 times over a bland chord progression.
Redemption, thy name is Florence. After two extraordinarily bad promo singles, Florence + The Machine drop a proper song in the form of “My Love”.
The one inarguably definitive genre that emerged in the 2010s was mumble rap, which since its mainstream emergence about eight years ago has gone through various metamorphoses and dilutions to leave us with artists like sadeyes.
When I first started working at No Frills in 2004 I found an old shelf in the storage area. Affixed to the top were an old label and two cereal box stickers promoting the second Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie. All three of the items dated back to the early 90s, a fact that blew the minds of my coworkers and I. These were historical relics to us.
