An unfortunate reality is that many industries, such as the media industry, are shrinking and many jobs are being condensed into other positions. So departments that in years past held 8 people have now been reduced to 2 people. This of course makes getting a job difficult because a lot of the time, you need to have a job in order to get a job. And a lot of the time, getting that first job is just sheer luck. Being in the right place at the right time and talking to the right people. The world doesn’t run on hard work, it runs on networking. Which is kind of stupid really. That’s how you get situations where someone can slave away on something for years and get no recognition, while another person is rewarded for doing the most basic things.
Life is a popularity contest.
